milkyway selfie
this "selfie" was made near the small walloon town called "durbuy" in south belgium where the lightpollution is clearly lower than the northern part, this is bortle 4, where you easily can see the milkyway structures with pretty much detail so can you imagine what bortle 3-2 or 1 would be ? that would be amazing and i should never leave that place if i could.
the story behind the selfie...
it was a 3 days - trip to durbuy, i already choosed the place like 2 months before to make sure it was in a lower light polluted area, so we arrived, and even on the road you could see the less houses and with the kilometers we get more south the more nature we saw. unfortunately something we couldn't find in flanders anymore, except flanders fields in the province of West - Flanders. so after making our rooms ready and putting the food in the fridge i took my tripod and other gear to search a place arround the house to shoot at night, we where staying in an old renovated "farm" house with a big garden and sight on the South-East sky and that was great !
"it was the first time i saw the milkyway so bright!"
I checked the weather conditions every 10 minutes while hoping to get just my one picture i wanted, the sun went down, and high clouds already started rolling over but i was stubborn and kept hoping. more and more clouds covered the sky and i gave up, went to sleep, my girlfriend whp was already sleeping was a bit pissed but thats okay and i said to her " babe, just give me the chance to get the picture i wanted for so long and especially now becouse we are in a bortle 4 right now for only 3 days so its now that i have to do it ! about 2am i looked trough the window and it was clear, i put on my shoes and my coat and went outside, setted up the camera and climbed on that little wall in the garden, raised the binoculairs and click ! the photo was made.
try to take a look with 3D glasses on !
